Floating and Sinking

We have been exploring sinking and floating this week (which has also given us a lovely opportunity to cool down in the hot weather!)

We predicted which objects might float and which might sink before putting them to the test in water: "The shell floats to start with and then sink because it gets full of water." "The stone has no air in it and so will sink." "Look, the sponge floats but then it gets heavy with water in so it sinks!" "Small things don't always sink because they can be heavy too."

What a lot of careful observation and super scientific thinking.
